Engine Jerk

Just a weird question I've always wanted to ask.

If you don't pay attention and let go of the clutch while in gear and the whole truck jerks forward w/ tires squealing then engine stalls out, would this be bad for the engine or the transmission or both?

Although it is not good for the drive train, it should not cause damage unless something is about to go out anyway. If something is getting weak, that may finish it off.
