Car Wash Problem as well
Today our Expedition started studering down the road and the service engine light came on after we left a drive thru car wash with an undercarriage clean. We have always taken it to a car wash that has never used and undercarriage wash to our knowledge, but today washed the truck at a different car wash that used an undercarriage wash and 3-5 miles down the road we started having problems. I don't think the engine should be that sensitive to being washed.
I think the engineers did make attempts to keep things dry on my engine by putting o-rings on some of the electrical connectors. The COP is also designed to try to seal the spark plug holes. If the engine has any vacuum leaks then water can get sucked into the intake system.
I would be curious to know if your air filter gets soaked with water and reduces the air/flow enough to cause the engine to run rough or stall.
I have never followed the air intake all the way into the fender well so I don't know if an undercarriage wash could throw water up into the air filter. Do you keep your engine running when you are in the car wash?
