Water Pump Blues

I have a '97 F150 XLT 4.2 V6. I am currently in the process of changing the water pump and have run into a problem. On the top of the pump there is a 'y' shaped metal tube that splits into the heater core and the the block. How do you get that thing out of the pump? I have taken of the bolt that holds it to the pump, but the thing just won't budge.

It just slides into the water pump.
The O-ring may be swollen.
Try some penetrant and pry it upwards to remove.

Ended up taking the 'Y' loose from the hoses and working it around the wire harrness that comes around in front of the water pump. Took two of us to pull that thing loose from the pump, hehe. Anyway got it replaces and eeverything is absolutely lovely now.

You can knock it out in a saturday. If you don't have the "special" wrench set (it constist of two flat wrenches) then you will need an adjustable wrench that opens to at least 1.5 inches and a strap wrench for the pulley. I chose the latter of the two, since I knew that they would not be one time use tools. Also threw on a new thermostat for good measure.
