4.6 spark plug wire damage

Has anyone out there had a problem with the spark plug wires on their F 150 1997 4.6 L engine? In the past 6months I have had a hard start followed by check engine lite on . twice have had to have the spark plug wires replaced . as a set, and very expensive. only 6000 miles between failure. What gives ? Is it time to get rid of my F150?

Check the plugs and the coil packs? Also, what about the infamous heater hose clamp drip? What wires are you using?

I had a similar problem with my 97 4.6L when I only had 30,000 miles on it. One of those crappy factory spark plugs didn't want to fire all the time. The truck ran fine, but was hard to start sometimes and I got a check engine light.

I had nothing but trouble with the factory plugs. Replaced them with some cheapo Bosch Platinums and I haven't had any problems since.

yeh there was a minor recall on the 97's mine had that problem that at about 30K miles the plugs and wires had to be replaced. but every new model has this bugs the 97 only had exhaust recall and then some small leaks by the "oh ***** bar" located above the passengers side door. and then the plugs and plug wires went bad cause it was the fire year models in the F150's that they used the ignition wires. but down here motorcraft double platinum plugs are 21.36 with tax and ignition wires are 69.89. so shouldnt be that much dude.

The parts may be cheap, but they'll rape you like nothing else for the labor.

I've had the problem a couple of times. Mainly with the wires backing off the plug. I finally put some Taylor wires on and no more problems. Make sure you use di-electric (spark plug) grease on the boots. Stay away from Jacob's wires, they were the worse crap I ever used.

shoot, if your going to have to replace wires that often, go down to Autozone or another local part store & buy some with lifetime warranties, mine cost $50..
