He didnt blow his engine...

Muscle cars were using nitrous way before imports were.

And there is a piece of metal in #8. I've already borescoped it and seen it.

My 4.6 runs great, but can deffinatly tell when I'm pulling a trailer or the JetSki. As far as who would win a race between a 5.4 and 4.6, it would be close. I've seen a 4.6 5 speed outrun a 5.4 auto by .10 of a second. I still havn't raced my 4.6 auto, but with a chip and FTVB I think I would be close. I know for passing and stuff, the 5.4 might provide a bit more power at the high end. If I purchased a truck today it would deffinatly have the 5.4.......and I would opt for the Supercharged Edition.

People are getting off topic. The simple fact is that if you want the most performance, getting the 5.4L (espiecially 99+) over the 4.6L is the cheapest way to get 30 hp and 50 ft-lb. New, the 5.4L costs about $600 and used, even less, but they may be harder to find. Fuel consumption is primarily a factor of engine load, or throttle input. Depending on how a person drives, it is quite possile that a larger engine has enough torque to use less throttle input and get better fuel economy. It is not always the case, but it depends on driving style.

Both the 5.4L and 4.6L are reliable motors when taken care of.

Thats funny...My 99 4.6 against my dads 00 5.4 with both 3.55 gears and everything on the truck identical he kicks my butt. His truck has unbelievable torque and snap off the go. I cant complain with my 4.6, it still has good power and reliable. But going factory against the 2 the 5.4 will win hands down. Especially if we hook trailers up to them.

Bent a cam most likely ???

You are definitely an experienced engine builder / racer / mechanic

Bent cams are near the top of the list when it comes to engine failures... NOT !!!

I think your actual engine / truck knowledge is probably reflected identically by your obvious command of the English language and your superb spelling and punctuation skills.

As I recall, Neal blew a head gasket. That turned out to be a problem with the gasket from the factory.

Power plays no factor in your maintained speed at a set RPM. Gear ratio decides that.

Bent cam?! Wow... I won't even comment on this one

And when you leave the Nitrous, or "Naws!" to the "ricers" is when they'll blow by you. SR20DET anyone?

Thumbs down

HI!... Hey little boy 4.6lpwnage : When you know NOTHING of what you talk about, it's best to shut up. 1st off I have *NEVER* blown up any engine in my current F-150. The 5.4 that's in there now is the original 5.4 that came with the truck when I bought it NEW in "99" Still has stock heads and cams. The *ENGINE* you see in my gallery is of a "98' 5.4 crate engine I bought from a buddy that works at the FORD dealer I used to work at. As for the comment that is under the video caption. That engine that blew up is the one in the "85 MERK' that was racing me. By the way his name is SEB and that's HIS sight that my vids are on. Now you feel REALLY dumb don't ya!

HI!... By the way I have a heavily modded 5.4 making about 340H.P and 430FT/LBS of TQ (at flywheel). I run a 29" tall tire and have 4.10 gears. On the highway in O/D at 75mph @ 2500rpm, I get 21.3MPG.

wow u mean your engine works hard to move your truck 75mph? 80mph in my truck is 2200rpm. so does that mean your statement on the other forum that the 5.4 dont have to work as hard to move the truck faster is wrong? or am i just imagining somethin...

You are. 4.10:1 gears + small tires = higher engine speeds. I thought you would have known that.

That's because yours is probably a 4.6l Auto. PhillipSVT was talking about a 4.6l 5 speed racing a 5.4 Auto. You don't lose as much power down the driveline w/ an automatic tranny. I believe a 4.6 5 speed w/ someone that can drive decently will keep up with a 5.4l auto. Mike T. uses 35hp lost down the driveline for a 5 speed and 65 for an auto. There goes that 30hp advantage.

I know someone w/ the v6 and a 5 speed in his truck and he has run 15.9s before. I think the only mods on it are exhaust and an intake. I've also raced a stock truck like his w/ my truck and w/o nitrous, from a stop I just pull like hell. From a 40mph those guys keep up pretty good. I just slowly walk on them.
