"Piston Slap" could be oil filter?

Hi all, I got a little savvy and read my owner's manual the other day, it states in there that use of an oil filter other than the Motorcraft filter could cause "knocking" at start up. Well, I was having a knock, knock, knock sound from my 5.4 on start up on cold mornings before but I went to a Ford dealership (because of a coupon) this time to have my oil changed and ever since... no more knock on cold mornings. I might be crazy, or it might be a fluke, but I just thought I would share this with everyone.

Use any with an anti-drainback valve. There's a bunch of info here on it. I've had good luck with K&N and Mobil 1 filters. They use much better technology including filtering media.

I had been going to an oil change place that only used penzoil filters, and without fail, the engine would knock every morning...

Anti-drainback valve is essential for our engines. The material of the anti-drainback valve can cause a slapping like noise, but it is distinctly different than a dry engine due to the drainback of oil.

This is why Fram sucks. Carboard anti-drainback valve.
