You're probably right, I'd start with the filter.

 

Couple of other possibilities:

A dirty MAS or a vacuum leak (introducing unmeasured air into the intake manifold) can set these codes.

 

A SEARCH on "P0171 P0174" will show you the most common reason for this very common and FAQ.

I got those codes when I left the oil cap off after changing the oil. Reinstalling the cap and reseting the computer cured it. The codes were because of the extra air going through the pvc valve due to the missing cap.

 

Change your pcv valve with hose; you have a cracked elbow the one near the wall.

you are correct exact right hose,i did do a search on those codes after i posted and got some hints thanks for the input. damn special hose though ford here i come.
