Question Check engine...code P1451

I posted this code before, but I just took a look at what I was told was the problem. Well under the spare tire, the solinoid looking thing.....about the size of a 35mm film cansiter...yeah that thing.. it has a small little rust hole in it and I can see copper coils in there. So could that be the problem?

thanks guys

A 1451 code is an evaporative system malfunction that is specific to the vent solenoid.

Your description sounds correct for a vent solenoid, I guess I've never seen them mounted under the spare tire, ususally they're mounted somewhere in the engine compartment near the charcoal canister.

If I remember right (at least on older vehicles), gas fumes from the tank are vented through a charcoal canister and then routed to the intake manifold. The vent solenoid only allows gas fumes to be routed to the intake manifold when the engine is running.
