head threads

does anyone know if it is possible to add more threads to the stock heads before the spark plugs blow out. oh 99 5.4. i have the heads off for a forged build up so now would be the time. will this have to be a machine shop deal or can it be a do it youselfer?

I'm pretty sure you can install threaded inserts that have more threads. Check with Fox Lake, I know they install inserts in the heads that they build. Just a thought.

use the time-sert inserts. i repaired a blown plug with one a friend of the family works on a NHRA top fuel team building engines and he says they install inserts on their aluminun heads for the plugs. the insert has a lot more threads biting into the aluminum the just a plug. just my $0.02

Where in Louisiana are you? I'm in Baton Rouge @ LSU

Check with Sean Hyland. They might be able to tell you what you can do. He's been fiddling with the modular motors since they came out and has 4.6l motors doing 1500hp. He's got to do something to keep those plugs from blowing out. http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/

I'd do them now. Each insert is $7, the install kit is $125. Well worth the piece of mind, IMO.
