engine swap

I recently bought a 2002 F150 4.2l. It is wrecked and may need a new engine. I have already found a few replacement engines, but I was thinking of either putting a 4.6l or a 5.4l in as apposed to the 4.2 as they are not much more $$. However I was wondering if it would be a simple pull and swap, or if I would have to change out the engine, trans, ecu, ect to do the swap. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

SJ

Yes, anytime you swap a newer engine on any vehicle it's much more involved if you change from an identicle. You will need a new ECM, probably have to have it flashed, new main wiring harness, possibly a new transmission, as it may not be beefy enough or ven bolt on, or be compatible with the new ECM. Then there are different air intakes, manifold, throttle bodies, new sensors, exhaust issues, suspension issues if the weight change is significant. etc... As you can see it's quite a project, figure up to double the cost of doing a like swap at least, more if the tranny has to go too.
