Check engine light

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have a 2004 F-150 Lariat. Recently I installed a Air Raid cold air induction kit. It was fine for a week. Increased power and improved gas mileage was evident. The light came on while I was on the road to work. All the vitals read OK as far as the instruments go. The light went out after disconnecting the battery but came on again a day later. I hate to reinstall the stock air tube for a trip to the dealer. Will this setup void any warranty? Could it be the Air Raid or would you guess it is unrelated? Thanks, Hoss

If you can find an AutoZone near you, they will read your codes for free.

See if you can get anywhere from there before going to the dealer.

Post the codes here (you can search first) and see what you find out.

Check engine light

Thanks everyone,
I think I narrowed it down to a loose gas cap. After gassing up, the light went out. It reset itself sitting in my driveway overnight. Remember this one!!

That's likely in your owner's manual...

YOU need to remeber it! NOT us. It is the number one newbie mistake with these trucks IE: letting the engine run while gassing her up. Or not knowing the proper way to re-install the cap after re-fueling. and then getting the CEL. LOL

No your intake will not void your warranty. Do a search here on warranty, void, mods.

welcome to the board and enjoy your great new truck!!

Actually hcmq, I'm not that much a newbie. I've been in Fords for 45 years and this is my 8th F-150. I foolishly pulled into a full service station for gas. I very well know how to install the cap and always shut down while fueling. After I determined that the fuel cap was loose. I passed the experience on to others who hadn't a clue it would trip the light. They were grateful. Thanks again.

Sorry about that old timer! I meant newbie to the board.

The way you wrote your post it sounded like you had never heard of the gas cap setting a code. If you do a search on this board you will see that "Newbies" to the board discover this gas cap thing by starting a thread about it approx: once a week or two.

I'm glad you saved others from struggling to figure out what set their CEL when nothing else is wrong.

Peace-
