Should I feel bad?

PASSING
On two-lane roads, with traffic moving in both directions, you may pass traffic on
the left if the pass can be completed safely without exceeding the speed limit. In
preparing to pass, check the road ahead for sufficient distance and the road behind for
other traffic that may be preparing to pass you. Activate left-turn signal before passing
and right-turn signal after passing, and before returning to the right lane. Do not return
to the right lane too soon, wait until you can see the entire front of the vehicle you have
just passed in your rear view mirror. When another car is trying to pass you, stay in
your lane and don’t increase speed.

The other fellow increased his speed from 45 to 57 mph while I was passing so the correct thing for me to have done was to stop at 55 mph and have a head-on collision with the state troopers car. Then the trooper would have seen the car I was passing was violating the law for increasing his speed while I was passing. It was really stupid of me to stomp on the gas and pass this accelerating idiot just so the state trooper and I could live.

If you do take it to court expect to answer that question and the judge will tell you that 1 person breaking the law{speeding up} does not give you the authority to break one yourself {over the limit}.
Just an FYI, I recently moved into the "boonies" where there are 30 year old f-100's driven by 90 year-old farmers and also a bunch of other country folk. If I use the "flash-to-pass" method, 99% of them will slow down and pull over so you can pass them with a smile on their face. Don't know if that will work in your area or not.
Good luck.
