Engine running too cold?
Engine running too cold?
Hi again,
I'm back with another question.. seeking your help.
After installing the dual 14" Elec Fan kit, under pulleys, new thermosat (195), new cooling hoses (all), new vac hoses (most, the ones I could find) and rad fluid... it runs on the cold side. As it never goes past the n in the word normal.. as such, the elec fan (low temp - 205) never comes on.. could this be a bad thing?
1994 Ford F-150 Supercab 302 Auto w/air
forgot to add, that I upgraded to a dual core rad from a single core..

Running too cold is a bad thing.
First, measure the actual temperature of the system to see where it is actually running at. Guessing at what the temperature is or relying on the dash guage is sure to lead to frustration.
What temp thermostat did you use? Some are too cold, otherwise you may have gotten a defective one that is staying open.

Read his post!! he put in a 195 stat.
with the new bigger rad and cooler stat you might not be putting enough heat to the cheap dash gauge.
as sho said you first need to know what the actual temp you are running at BEFORE you do anything else. it could be as simple as the dash gauge is registering 195 at the "N" in normal. These Ford guages are junk and highly dampened to read normal at a preset temp.
if you can't get a real temp (for whatever reason) swap the 195 stat for what stock calls for and see if that doesn't help you out.
sho89 is right COLD IS BAD!!

According to Ford, the 195 stat is the correct part for this truck. The one I took out was a 192 stat and it ran at the "rm" part of the gauge. I ran it for a while and the stat is opening and closing.
The engine was rebuilt at 102,000. A normal .30 over. It now has 108,5000 on it. (it's my toy, and only gets the highway treatment..

10/4 on the 192!
you got sumthin else wrong then. I would still look at the current stat even though it is still opening and closing it might be doing it at the wrong temp. (just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good)
there could also be air in the system and the temp sender for the gauge is not getting touched by the coolant and is just reading the surrounding metal's temp.
just my .02
