If the noise is coming from your compressor. The 25k question would be. Is it a high pitched thin clicking or a muted knock click.

The high pitched is more likely the clutch and the lower would be inside the compressor (pistons, etc)

The clutch should be able to be replaced without taking the comp out or purging the a/c system.

If its the comp then its more expensive.

It sounds like the thin click......like a thin piece of plastic in the spokes of a bike. It doesn't sound like a knock. Would a Haynes or Chiltons guide cover how to remove the clutch?

Thanks again!

Rick

My truck makes a clicking noise on shut down--------it is the PCV valve fluttering. Hold the PCV valve in your hand and have someone turn the engine off and see is that's the problem

Well fellas..it was the A/C compressor ($600.00 installed) OUCH! No more clicking though...also a side effect (that the tech diagnosed prior to swapping the compressor) was that the PSI in the system was dangerously high. Thanks for the tips and info!
