Question Check Engine light is on code P1451 5.4 F-150

My check engine light is on. I just went to autozone and got it scanned. The code it came up with is P1451 and it says Evap Emission Control System Vent Control Valve Circuit. at the bottom of the print out. Any Ideas?

Thanks

P1451 is a problem with the canister vent solenoid and or circuits to solenoid.First start by checking solenoid resistence, should be 48 to 65 ohms. Next check for battery voltage to solenoid on red wire with the key on, engine not running. Solenoid is at rear of vehicle around fuel tank area. It has 2 wires 1 is red & 1 is purple/white.

What does the canister look like?

Also if it is the gas cap how can I tell its bad? Is there any noises it would make?

P1451 Evap. Emission Control Sys. Vent Control Valve Circuit Malf.

this is right off the ford code list

you might have gotten a obd 1 code or a dash computer code or something like that.

hopefully someone here that has the shop manual on disc will reply with the diagnostic procedure for this code.

My first reply was steps right out of the ford shop manual. The canister is right above or in front of spare tire. The canister vent solinoid is attached to the canister.

Canister is about 4 to5 inches in diameter, about a foot long. It is black plastic.
