what do i need to pull a chevy?

ok fellas heres the deal!

my uncle was giving me flak about buying a ford, and talking about him pulling me around cuz his '79 chevy reg cab, camper edition(or some crap) he has a 350 w/over 150,000k miles on it, and he put a new crankshaft on it. he does have 4.10 gears and 33 bfgoodrich tires.

now i have a '03 f-150 ext cab 5.4 w/3.55 and FX4 tw pckg. i have the stock rims and tires, i do have a magnaflow siso exhaust, k&n fipk and 1715 micro tuner. (electric fans in a few months) but i was just wondering what i need (besides a blower) to take the 'OL MANs 350.

how much heavier do you think his truck is than mine?

any info over this matter would be awesome, i'd like to know this stuff before i tear my truck up. which im not gonna do!

thank fellas i would appriciate your info

Question

Just want to make sure I understand this.

You want to chain your new '03 F150 that you are still making payments on, to 25 year old Chevy with odometer tripped, because of a perceived insult from a man with six teeth?

Talking

Oh well, if it's all hypothetical then please proceed by all means with my blessing.

And please accept my apologies about your Uncle.
I don't make a habit of insulting people who have more teeth than I do.

People over rate their old trucks all the time.
I'll bet you'd take him as is!!!!!

Shoot you really want to settle it, take em on down to the Dyno..... Post the results back here.

Bet money, so the loser pays for the Dyno tests!!!! And some beer too or something.

Or find a heavy load and tow it up a grade, see who's holds top speed and in what tranny gear. Make that load a good one, like 6500lbs or something.

I'm sure your truck probably out weighs his as is. Trucks have gotten heavier not lighter. If your truck has LSD then you would probably take him as is. It sounds like he has more tire on the ground. In that case his larger engine (more torque) and more traction would probably win. It is actually not reasonable to even take a guess without knowing more about each vehicles specifics.

Yeah, a lot of that tug-of-war would be determined by what angle the trucks were hooked up and where they were hooked up and what gear ratio and the ground that the trucks are on and stuff like that.

As far as power his 4.10:1 gears are a formidable opponent. Don't under estimate them.

On a flat paved surface you should take him because of traction. The voids in his tire take up a lot of space so there is less rubber on the road. Oh, and don’t chain them up bumper to bumper unless you want to pull his bumper around the parking lot.

Regards

alright, he has a popup camper, which i have no idea of its weight, but im thinking of just telling him lets mark some road off and hook that trailor up and time them,

now if he accepts my challege, my question is how do i pull it, overdrive off or on? 4hi or 2wd, you know stuff like that, i think he said his is a 4 spd or something.

any pulling tips would be great.im not and experienced puller.
thanx guys

since the 79 is a camper edition, id bet its a 3/4 ton. That means theres a chance its a heavy duty truck. Ive had people challenge my 98 4.6 in pulls with their "ol ford or chevy" but i figure id rather decline the challenge and not hurt my truck. My advice to you is the same. You have more power and torque then him and more than likely youd kick his a**, but to me its not worth the wear on my truck.

Just take the uncle and yourself to the denisit and use his truck and your's to pull both sets of teeth from each others mouth, less damage to your trucks and 1st one with all there teeth out wins!!!

SIMPLE STUFF!!!

Awe go ahead and mark some road off and tow that pop up. It will not hurt your truck in any way.

You have the towing pkg it is what your truck is made for. Just 2wd and go ahead and leave the OD on cause you will not even get to OD before the run is over.

You don't need any additional mods what you got should be just fine. He has a 4 speed and a 4.10 rear with an old 350. You have more horsepower and more torque with fuel injection and an electronically controlled auotmatic. It will be a good race but my money is on your truck.

Just put it in drive and have at it!!

I'd place a real monetary bet on the starter of this thread's truck.

Maybe we need to contact a Chevy forum, and see if they want any of this action!!!! lol

Why don't you just take them to a drag strip and run them down the track ???

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'
