intake noises and rattles

I have a 2001 f150 with the 5.4 L engine. There is a sucking noise on acceleration. The noise is constant-doesn't get louder with engine speed. The dealer tells me that it is normal "intake" noises. Is this possible? There is also a rattle on acceleration when going up hills. I've changed the brand of gas that I use but that hasn't changed anything. I have no problem with power or acceleration and my truck towes my boat just fine.

Maybe it's just Ford engine noises and I need to accept them. This engine is the second engine fro my truck and it has a little over 17,000 miles on it.

Do you have an aftermarket filter? If you removed the box and just have a filter hanging out in the open then the sucking noise your hearing is normal. It shouldnt be that loud if everything is stock. Check your filter and make sure the box lid is tight and so are all the clamps holding your filter on. Hope this helps!

Thanks Hymis;

I'll take a look and make sure everything is locked down. would you suggest an after market air filter setup?
