Please help...
Hi everyone. I have a 2001 SuperCrew. For a week I have been experiencing 2 problems with my truck. This is the first time since I bought it. First of all, when I start the truck and during the time I take off from a complete stop...there is a very loud screeching sound that comes from the engine. A friend advised me to use some belt dressing for the fan belt. I tried it and it still does it. They also told me the fan belt was still in good condition. Another person told me it might be the bearings in the pulley. It is a constant sound and very embarrasing and it's the only form of transportation I have. I hate driving it in that condition. Secondly, two days ago when I turned my truck on again it sounded very loud ...like a lot of wind in my engine. It scared me. It sounds like it's acclerated. It was always quiet before. I know that something is wrong. If someone could lend me some advice I sure would appreciate it.
My belt would squeal even when I put a new one on. Especially in cool or damp weather. If it's your belt a Gatorback belt will stop it. The other problem sounds like your fan clutch. Don't know if it needs replaced though. Mine does the same thing from time to time, and has the original in the truck at 105k. Good luck!,,,98
The belt can look brand new. My 2000 5.4 started squealing at WOT 1-2 shifts at about 2000 miles. Gatorback = total quiet. The fan clutch had a mind of it's own too, but was fine....yes, it sounds like "a lot of wind"...he he
