89 F150 I-6 start/run problems
Been here before about 3 months ago with pretty much same problem. I won’t give up, but close to paying someone to figure this out.
Truck ran fine until day after towing wife’s car home for repair. Got in truck, didn’t start right up (as it usually did). Noticed fuel pumps continued running with key on-engine off. Started replacing parts that logically I thought could be causing pumps to continue to run after turning key. Replaced high-pressure pump in frame rail, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay, checked fuel pressure on rail (was good) and would hold pressure after key turned off. Pulled EEC-IV out and sent to S.I.A. Electronics, they found some bad grounds etc. and repaired and sent back (still same problem). Dropped rear tank to look at that pump because it was noticeably louder than front pump (dual tanks) took apart dual-function reservoir (it appeared nothing noticeably wrong with it). Finally located an EEC relay and replaced it. Truck ran 15 miles a day for 2 weeks, then same thing, pumps running, no start. Bought and installed second EEC relay (no fix). Next I changed TP Sensor, pulled apart IAC sensor (cleaned and tested good for volts/res). Swapped a map sensor from a 1987 Merc. (Same pt#) no change. Did these last few things because sometimes truck would start with pumps running but CEL on, 1900-2200 RPM at idle, gassy exhaust, rough running. Checked around for vacuum leaks and grounds. Still stumped. Also since I got EEC-IV back from S.I.A., I can’t get anything code-wise out of it using scanner/or jumper wiring test connections. Nothing but a solid tone and light My guess EEC-IV was never repaired correctly or second EEC relay was bad also. I’m assuming that no codes sent with scanner means EEC-IV crap still.
Please Help—
Thanks.
