looking at a 2003 Screw with 16K,there is a light on in the dash that looks like a gas cap. I tried the gas cap and it was tight. what could be ??

 

I have an '03 Screw and the lite does not come on when the gas cap is off.
I thought it was to come on if you didn't put the gas cap back on.

 

my question is,how do you get it to go off ??

 

See if the owner's manual says anything about the light...it may server some other purpose than just to tell you the cap is off (although it very well might..)

If its not going off, then the sensor is probably bad (assuming the only purpose it servers is to tell you the gas cap is loose).

 

This lamp comes on after a evap test is run by the computer, and fails the test. The test runs once per drive cycle if conditions are right. Upon 2 consective evap test are run, with a leak detected, the ck eng lamp will come on.The red lamp was added to detect a gas cap leak on the 1st failed test, and if it is reinstalled (no other leak present) the red lamp will eventually go off.This is to prevent the costomer from having to pay for a test when Ford is not a fault.(Somebody has to pay fo the test)

 

the light is amber colored,I have looked at the truck and driven it twice and the amber gas cap light is still on. I only drove it about 5 miles. The check engine light is not on.

 

Some models the lamp will be red.

 

Never knew it had this feature.
