engine shuts down

engine shuts down

my 2001 f-150 v6 shuts down while driving..all electric is lost also for just seconds..and restarts itself..not alternator..what is it?

First of all- welcome.
Not sure about your specific truck but most newer cars have a CPS- Crank Position Sensor. Symptom when this goes out is engine dies just like if you turned off the key and wont start again for 30 mins to 4 hrs depending on how bad it is. Sometimes the CPS will cause a sputtering just before it dies and sometimes it doesn't. Usually when it dies the CPS will not throw a code.

"restarts itself"? - you mean the truck fires back up and you can continue driving or the electric items come back on (dash, headlights, radio). If it's the later .... check battery cable, clean off terminal, look for split in cable
