idle problem associated with battery

I had to replace my battery due to a combination of its weakness and bad starter. After I did my truck would almost die when I stopped and if you gave it a little juice it would kill itself. Driving normal would be fine but in a parking lot or something was a chore due to it being an automatic. I took it back to the dealer and by that time they claimed they could not get it to duplicate and explained to me that the computer, after being reset (i. e. battery replacement) needs time to balance out/adjust itself. This took 3 days for it to go away! I just disconnected my battery again to install my stereo and its doing it again. Does this seem right to anyone and if so, is there any way to speed up the process?

Sounds like it could be your IAC (idle air control) valve that needs cleaning. Simple 20 minute job for a mechanically inclined individual.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I may look at cleaning the IAC but I just read the actual owner's manual and it states that this problem will occur after replacing the battery. Simply turn off all accesssories and start the engine, letting it run for awhile before driving or using any electrical components. The Haynes manual also says it may just take a bit of driving to stabilize. Thanks a lot gentlemen

What I meant to say is the the problem is not your new battery. Some other part of your system has varied from intial specs and is causing the truck to run rough when you reset your computer.

That is interesting, but I got it to go away today and everything seems fine again. See what happens I guess
