P1401 Code F150 2001 4.2 V6

i got a code P1401 on the tester,the service engine soon light is on,any ideas before i take to the shop? the parts computer said dealer only.truck had 86000 miles on it.any help would be appreciated/
Thanks in advance, truck is a 2001 F150 V6 4.2 2 wheel drive standard The Auto zone guy said the code was EGR circuit high output?is there a way i can fix this without going to a shop?

You have a bad DPFE sensor. It's about an $85.00 emissions part. Ford used enough of these substandard sensors that they extended the warranty on this part to 70,000 miles.

You can easily replace it yourself. It's #4 in the illustration. Check the hoses and connection first to make sure everything is connected, but odds are very high that the sensor is dead.

thank you,is it the the plastic piece that 2 hoses go into the bottom ?it isnt very big?

wow $85.00 it doesnt look any bigger than a box of matches.it doesnt look very hard to change either.there isnt something hidden is there?lol

thank you AJRango,i got the part after work,took 5 minutes to put on,the light is off.there are 2 different types of that part,mine was the small one $68.00.the shop told me it would be $161.00 installed (riiiight)
