check engine light

Have a 98 150 4.2 with 87.000 miles, light is on and am getting
a rotten egg smell from the exhaust. rough idle when first started
seems to run fine after that, but the light worries me. any ideas

That rotton egg smell is probably your catalytic converter going out.

Drop by Autozone sometime to have them read your codes for the check engine light unless you have a OBDII reader.

Have your codes read first.

That rotton egg smell might just be an overly rich mixture. Leaving it like that for too long will definitely ruin the cat(s).

Fix the source of the CEL first.
