Do all spark plugs need to be the same?
Do all spark plugs need to be the same?
Hi,
I have Motorcraft Single Platinum plugs in my truck.. well, except for the one that blew out.. The mechanic through in a Bosche or something like that. Now the truck is misfiring on #3 and I dont even think that plug is firing anymore.
Is it likely because the plug is diff? My mechanic is pretty dumb and said its probably something else.
Didn't do this before the plug blew.. only thing thats changed is a helicoil and a diiff spark plug in the mix.
Thanks

Engineering rule of thumb is to use the same manufacturer's parts in groups whenever possible. You could replace the spark plug with the same type but it could be slightly different if the manufacturing process cannot guarantee consistency in all aspects of a product.
Its kind of like buying paint from the same batch# because mixing different batches may result in slightly different colors.
Different manufacturers can produce parts that work fairley well together though.
Replace it with the same manufacturer's part as you currently have in the other cylinders just to eliminate it as the problem and give you piece of mind. If it still fails you have strongley eliminated a possible source of your problem. (Not to say a new part might not be bad).
