engine oil cooler
BMG, let me try and save you some money and hard work...I am pretty dang sure (99.9487319%) I am the only one here with a engine OIL temp gauge. You DO NOT need an engine oil cooler. These engines run too cool as it is. The engine oil pretty much runs about 100* over outside air temp all the time. That means even on the hottest summer day (110*) you're looking at oil temps in the neighborhood of 210* max. That's not even close to hot, much less needing an oil cooler. Do that same math and you will see in a winter day of 40-50*, you're looking at oil temps around 140-150. Waaaaayy to cool. But, that's the way Ford engineered it, so rock on I guess. If you ever can talk to anyone with a race car, engine builder, oil company, Fluidyne, or anyone like that, they'll all tell you a good, normal oil temp is around 212+. I run around 220-230 in my race car as does every guy I know at the track. Spend your money somewhere more useful. Good luck.
Thanks for the links mf150... I also found some at flex-a-lite where I got my electric fan package
Galaxy - Thank you for responding to my post. I will definitely reconfirm with my engine builder regarding an engine oil cooler, however I must apologize I failed to mention all the mods I've accumulated for this rebuild, which will be far from stock. I am building a high horsepower engine which will be used as my daily driver. This engine will be running less than it’s full capabilities, as longevity is also a concern. The engine is being blueprinted for a blower. However I am still curious if you think I need a cooler with the following mods:
JE Pistons -17cc dish 20 over
Manley H-beam rods
Comp cams 102200 (1:14)
Comp cams spring kit
Ford sprocket, spacer kit
ARP bolts Main/Stud
Cobra high flow oil pump, pickup tube
Billet trigger wheel
Cobra oil pan (7qt) & windage tray
main bearings / rod bearings
Auto Meter Gauges (Intake 2ch temp, Exhst 2ch temp,
Trans temp, oil pres., Boost/vac.20psi)
DynaTech SuperMaxx 1 5/8" long tube headers
BBK chrome valve covers
BBK 75mm throttle body
ATI Procharger kit(6#,9# boost)(polished)
flex-a-lite electric fan kit
HP rebuilt 4R70w
The following is slated in the near future:
Accusump oil accumulator
engine oil cooler
2 high flow catalytic converters ?
2 flowmaster mufflers ?
1 X pipe ?
Diablo 3 stage chip(2 custom)
Optima battery
Thanks again.
Hope to have pics online soon

Well that definately changes things. Since an oil cooler is an add on mod, I may try it without it and see how it does. Espicially if it's mostly street driven and your not gonna ring the crap out of it much...(yea right) My mustang (not to go into too many details) had 305hp at the wheels and my oil temp ran about 210-220 on the street without one regardless of how I drove it. That was perfect. On the race track was a different story. I ended up with one for the track but kept it completely covered up on the street. And no, it was not drag racing.
