At what interval are you guys changing your fuel filter?
Ford book 30,000..... Haynes manual 15,000.
And which brand filter are you using?

My truck started running like crap at about 35,000 miles, (and about 20 miles after I just filled it up). Replaced the filter...ran perfectly...til about 38,000miles, then the same thing! Changed it again, and now it's OK. Guess I got into some bad gas.
The first one was a purolator, #2 was a NAPA.

A quart of dirty fuel with rust, water, & sediment, is more than enough to plug up a filter. 3000 gal. of clean fuel may not show anything in the filter.
I sometimes use gas from a 55 gal. drum or gas can, some gas stations have cleaner tanks than others. It is easy to get dirty fuel.
If in doubt change filters, motorcraft is a good one imho.

I go 30,000 miles between fuel filter changes.
I bought my truck with 65K on it in September. I've got a tick over 68K on it now and I just changed my filter over the weekend. It had a Motorcraft on it, which I replaced with a Wix. Judging from the looks of the corrosion on the filter and the bracket that holds it I would be willing to bet it was the factory original.
Now if it wasn't so freaking cold out I might be able to pick up some extra mpg.

Fuel filters last forever, almost!
I cant believe people change their filters so frequently. The job is dangerous, and stinks. I did my Bronco II at 175,000 miles and it only had about a half thimble of black residue come out the input pipe. My wifes chevy van was almost clean and very little residue even with me back flushing, at 75,000 miles. We use all brands of gas in a metro/suburban area. I can tell you that my new F150 will not be changed any more frequently. Ohh by the way, I had no performance or mpg issues before or after the replacement of the filters. They are not a factor if you have decent gas in your area. M2cents.
i only buy name brand gasoline and i change my fuel filter every 25000 miles. Changing at extraordinary intervals (100,000???) is ridiculous to me. I buy mine from walmart for less than $7 bucks so cheap insurance. IMO.
I used to be one to overlook changing the filter, and put it off until 25k or 30k or whatever.
Now I am a changed man.
Kind of funny story, I had a 89 vw jetta for a beater last year, and I was staying in an apartment with no garage. (Times were rough)
Anyway, I had finally gotten the jetta tuned up, and running right, then it started running rough again. I knew it was the fuel filter.
Now this is in the middle of the winter in buffalo, and the car was sputtering so bad I couldn't even drive it to my buddies garage.
So, i decided i could tackle it. On my fords its a super easy deal with the removal tool.
This jetta has the filter attached with rubber hose from the factory. I ended up cutting the hose then trying to fit it back on. Due to the freezing weather I could not get the hose on for the life of me.
So, i ended up walking two blocks to the auto parts store (it was in the middle of the day on a work day) to get the next size bigger hose.
That finally worked and i started the jetta up and it ran perfect.
Ever since then I change my filters every fall, and don't worry about it.
