Opinions Please!!

I'm not sure if this should be in tire/wheels or engines, but here goes. I have a 98 F-150 4x4 4.6 and just bought a 02 F-150 4x4 super crew 5.4. I want to take the 285's off my 98 and replace the 265's on my newer 02. Going back to the 4.6, I had to put in a super chip after going from the stock 265's to 285's. Is there that much difference between 265's & 285's? Both set of tires are BFG KO AT's, but it being a 4x4 it looks better with the 285's. This is my everyday work vehicle and I never use the 4x4 unless going out of town. Would it be smarter to keep the 265's on the 02? I'm cleaning up the 98 and it shouldn't take long to sell. For anyone who wants to know..... you can swap the K&N intake filter kit betweem the 4.6 & 5.4. I think the only onther thing I'm going to do is a exhaust. Any suggestions on that. I swapped the K&N intake system today and I can already tell a difference.

going to bigger sizes will lose you some power, but going from 265 to 285 probably wouldnt be all that bad.

If I had the tires I would probably do it.

If anything you can try switching and see which you like better.

My $.02

the 285 look great on a f150 4x4.On mine I went from factory 265 to duellers 285/75/r16 and it looks great..Guess it depends how muchh threads are left on the 285's plenty left yes swap them.If not don't switch and buy some new 285 later on... As much differance you mean as in size (I'd say about 2 in check tirerack for their little tire sizing),,price (about 30-40 dollars per)

I don't think they will have the same size lugs. The 98 has 12mm and the 02 has 14mm.

Keep rims.. only switch tires

I like the looks of the rims on the 02 better. I'd keep the same rims on each truck, just switch tires. I'll be right back... going to go see what is on both trucks and see if the rims will work for both tires. Give me 5 minutes.... Shoot, please tell me if this work or not? The 98 has 285/75/R16 on it and the 02 has 265/70/R17. The R16 & R17 concerns me. Please let me know if I'll be able to swap these tires, but keep the same rims on each truck. Also, any good sites for selling my 98? It runs perfect.... I just need a crew cab for the two young-ins!!

No, it won't work. The rims/tires are different sizes. The R16 R17 is the part that stops it all from working. The R16 = 16" rim, R17 = 17" rim. The rims are different sizes.

Thanks.....

I kind of figured the rim size would throw me off. I guess I'll be keeping the 265's for awhile? Any suggestions on exhaust? Thanks again for all the help!!
