Question 4.2 V6 gone?

I was just told by a friend today that starting with the new 2004 F150, the V6 option has been eliminated, and only V8 engines are available. Is this the truth? Just curious, I have a 99 with a V6 and haven't had a lick of trouble with it and in my opinion it's been a great motor.

Cool

Yep, it's true. You can get the 4.6 or 5.4 V-8. They did indeed drop the V-6.

Yeah, Ford finally realized that V-Sux LOL. The way I figured it, V6 in a truck is like a I4 in a car.

The 4.2 will be a vast improvement over the poorly desisned 3.8 that existed in the Windstar.

Well that's good news for all the minivan lovers out there! I agree, the V6 is more for something like the van or family sedan. It's a very good motor though, but I am wishing I had the 4.6 in my truck. Oh well, you can only make do with what you have in front of you when you buy used!

1999 Reg cab, 4.2 V6, 31,100 miles!

Maybe not

I test drove a 2004 F150 4x4 today with a 4.6 and it was a dog. It had 300 miles on the clock, so I took it easy even though the sales man said it didn't have to be babied. The 2003 that I drove with a 4.2 was the same but no 4x4 and it was much more responsive and felt more willing to move the truck. I didn't get to try the 5.4, but that would be the way to go since they don't offer the 4.2 in the new style. OBTW you can still get the Heritage 2004 with a 4.2, 4.6 or 5.4. Just my experience.

I had wondered about that in a question I asked months ago. With the new 150 heavier and test reports calling the 300hp 'sluggish' what use would the six be.

They probably decided the new truck was jsut to heavy for anyone to be happy with the current V6. They will probably release it with a v6 that is more powerful then the old 3.8 derived 4.2.

I heard Ford is redesigning the Ranger for 05 I believe. Salesman told my buddy that they want it to be bigger, like the Dodge Dakota. Maybe that 4.2 will end up there. Another friend has the 4.6 in his reg cab, his dad has it in his s-cab, both love it. Of course, their trucks are 99 and 200, respectively. The 4.6 ******* in the new trucks? They must be alot heavier!

I read somewhere (but don't remember where, or too many details) that they will have a new (I think it was a sub 4 liter) V6, OHC that will easily, in a mild state of tune push out 250hp. I think that we will be seeing the 3 valve 4.6 before too long, that should feel like a V8 is supposed to in the heavier new F150. The new Mustang GT is supposed to get a 300hp 3V 4.6 so hopefully they will let the 3V 4.6 in the new F150 pump out at least 285hp and over 330 ft. lbs. of torque. It would also be nice to see the 5.4 with numbers that were more like that of the compatition. The F150s new and older are strong trucks but there is certianly room for improvement!

If they make a reg. cab 3V 4.6 with a functional manual transmission, I'll buy one!

From what I read in motor Trend, the V6 will return in 05' with the 5-Speed manual as well. Considering how heavy the new truck is, I wonder what kind of axle ratio a V6 Auto combination will have?
