WOW, this sucks.....

Alright,
Today i decided to clean out my throttle body b/c of the CE light that was throwing the P0401 code. Everything came off farily easily, until i dropped a bolt from the TB down into something (dont know where, but its down there), and its not the air intake.

So after i got it off i checked the two ports in the TB and they were basically sealed shut with carbon buildup. So i cleaned the whole thing real carefully.

Now here is where i ran into my problems..........
putting things back on.

My friend decided to cross thread the bolt that attatches the TB to the EGR valve. Not a big deal right...........wrong. When he got the tap and dye set out to fix it. He went all the way through on the indside threads. Now there is a hole there. I just patched that up with some compound laying around the garage. It doesnt seem like that hole is anything actually, b/c i think the bolt pretty much seals it.

After finally getting everything back on, I start the truck. It starts fine, BUT (always one of the buts) will hardly idle at all, and i can hear an air leak.

Now, my question is, where might the air leak be coming from, and what can i do to fix it. Also, is there anything made that i can seal the hole that my friend put into my TB? One more, how much would it be to just buy a new TB and have someone put it in with new gaskets, and seals and all that great stuff.

Sorry for the long post. Just been a pretty bad night for the truck and I. Any help is really really appreciated. Thanks again.

okay bad night,

deep breath and kick the friend in the shinn.

throttle body bolt probly feel into the valley pan. it's the gap between the high rise intake and the top of the block. get a magnetic tool retriever and go fishing. there's an opening in front next to each head. "i still gotta 10mm deep well in there some where".

i would suggest JB weld or some other good metal repair compound.

new throttle body runs around $200 to $250 in parts, labor is a ?? considering the sense of humor of the mech.

as far as the air leak look, listen and feel. run your removal and instilation over in your mind you might of missed something simple.

im pretty sure that the throttle body can be saved with JB weld, bought some today, but im still waiting on gaskets, and the bolt that i dropped.

I couldnt get down in the valley with the magnet, im pretty sure its down there for good. not a big deal im told.

my only other problem, assuming that my gaskets and bolt seal everything off, is the bolt that helps hold the EGR valve to the Throttle body. It seems to be stripped out. Im gonna try to get in there with a little deeper bolt with the same threads and tighten it up. It should work fine, assuming everything goes like i want it to.

Thanks for the help, and let me know if you have any other ideas to get my truck running again. I appreciate it lots.

well..depending where the hole is...there is some great puddy out there that when hard you can tap and do all sorts of cool stuff with. I would get that..i think its call hard as steel or something. I wouldnt worry about the bolt missing too much..i know its a thing that just sticks in your mind...i have done those things before...now for the egr...maybe you can do a bolt/nut combo. I just did mine and i think there is some room back there for a nut. Might just work you never know. Let us know how you make out and a picture if you can do it will really help...

your idle...you might have forgotten a vacume line... we all forget sometimes...we are human

staypuff,

I looks like the hole problem is taken care of, pun. For the Idle try resetting ther PCM. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. If that doesn't cure it I would suspect that the IAC is dirty. It
will need a cleaning.

ALrighty, I got everything back together and it runs great. Not that it ran bad before the mass confusion, but the CE light was on and my MPG wasnt great. But it all works great now and everything seems fine. Thanks for all the help guys. Its greatly appreciated.
