Had to replace the radiator on my 97 Lariat with 111,000 miles on it, and decided to clean the throttle body assembly. It was pretty straight forward, but thought I was gonna snap the rear bolt while removing the EGR valve. Like previous posts mentioned, the EGR ports were pretty much plugged with carbon, and took me a while to clean them out. Hope this will take care of some of my pinging problems. Everything else looked OK. Hope to test drive it tomorrow, since I got done about 9:00pm tonight.
cleaned mine out the other day but ran into a bunch of problems. I have an air leak in my intake now, so i have to get new gaskets and the such. Hopefully yours turned out better than mine. Good luck
Mine turned out OK. Like I stated earlier, I did have problems with the EGR bolts. On the rear bolt, I did get some galling, and had to run a tap through the threads in the TB to clean them up. As far as the bolt goes, I was lucky the galling was only on the first two threads, the first of which is tapered. As fars as missing hardware goes, I have had a 10MM socket and a TBI cover bolt floating around in the black hole for about 6 years. I also ran a can of sea foam through the TBI after I got done. Put up one hell of a smoke screen.
Staypuff,put 5 oz. of SeaFoam into a container.Pull your brake booster vacuum line from the booster.Start the engine,stick the vacuum line in the container to pull the SeaFoam into the motor,shut the motor off.Let it sit for 5-10 minutes.Reconnect the vacuum line and start it up.Be prepared for alot of smoke! Take it for a drive to clean it out good.I change my oil after I do this procedure.Put the rest of the SeaFoam in the gas tank and reep the benefits of a cleaner engine!
i think he is talking about the brake booster...not the green or white ones...its inboard to the master cyclinder...thats what i got from reading it.......it goes to the TB elbow

I used the vacuum line off the power brake booster. The line has a whitish fitting on it, at about the 11:00 position. This is easier to use than the PCV valve and also makes it easier to turn off the vehicle to let the sea foam do its thing. Just put the end of the fitting in the can of sea foam and tip the can. Let the vacuum suck the sea foam untill the motor just about stalls out, then shut it off. Let it soak 10-15 minutes, then fire it up.

BOF, does the seafoam clean the injectors or what? I see no other reason for putting it in the fuel system.

Move the spring clip on the brake booster vacuum hose...

Then twist the hose back and forth while pulling it away from the white connector...

Now ya know!
If you want to prevent carbon build-up at every oil change put in a bottle of Red Line SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner.
Also, try using a premium gas like Chevron w/ Techron. This also prevents carbon build up.
Prevention is the key in these modular engines. As we all know they can collect one hell of a lot of carbon!
