while changing the oil filter....
Changed the oil/filter on my 02 F-150 (5.4L). While cleaning out the (stock) oil filter mount, it seemed to me that the post (whatever you call the thing the filter screws on to) could be turned by hand, but didn't seem to go anywhere regardless of which direction I turned it (i.e., turning seemed to neither tighten no loosen anything). It wasn't "easy" to turn, and there was no "wiggle", so I just left it alone and spun on the new filter (no problems, no leaks). Perhaps I was mistaken and my hand was slipping on the post's threads instead of turning the thing, but I don't think so. Only reason I ask is because on some friends' older cars with overtightened filters, removing the filter sometimes also unscrewed the post the filter was screwed onto, and it was a simple matter of screwing the post back in.
Is what I observed normal, or should the post be tight and, if so, is it a normal thread or reversed?
Thanks
ernie
