Question Lookin' for a 1990 computer!

I am a n00b to this forum, but I did SEARCH it first!

I am looking to get a used 1990 F150. The current owner says that it needs a "computer chip" because he thinks his is toast. I was wondering where the best place to get a used computer or chip for a 1990 F150? He says it has the "350" and I am pretty sure it's an auto... I have not seen the truck yet myself... The price he is asking is really good if the computer isn't too expensive and it the only problem with the vehicle.

Thanks!

Ry

What exactly is the "350"? That's a Chevy engine, am I missing something?

Cool

boochiesooka, welcome to the board !!!!!!!

You could check your local junkyards to see if they have another one for the truck. You do not need the same computer code to replace the current computer. In other words, the computer in the truck now (not working) has a four digit code on it, the replacement computer doesn't need to be the same one. The replacement computer DOES need to be able to run the 351 and the transmission that is attached so that is the information that you will need for sure before going any further. Also, you should have the truck checked over by a good dealership or friend to find out if it is only something simple to replace. Maybe a bad sensor that would end up being cheaper than a replacement computer and make sure that there is nothing else wrong with the truck that you don't know about yet. It is better to know what you are getting into instead of taking someone's word for it unless you know this person very well.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'
