could a couple of plug wires resting against the head covers cause the truck to not run right, some one told me they should not rub up against the engine at all, or the heat could do bad things

 

Yeah it is bad to be rubbing on something that heats up, after warming truck up if you cant put your hand on the part where the wires hit then it is way too hot... you can check the plug wires for any excessive resistance, also if you can get to a really dark spot at night pop the hood and see if you have any fireworks...
