Question Installing a 5.4L

Hello, I have a 1998 F-150 NASCAR and the engine was not taken care of and is using oil. I would like to replace it with a 5.4L from a 2000 Lightning. Does anyone know what needs to be done to accomplish this? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

First, search the board as this has been asked a dozen times already. Second, forget about it. You need a Lightning engine, intercooler, supercharger, transmission and computer. You can't swap out any one part easily.

If you don't install a supercharger, then the dished pistons with the 8.4:1 compression ratio are gonna cost you power.

If you don't have a 4R100 transmission, then the Lightning engine will destroy it.

If you don't use a Lightning computer, the engine may not run correctly. This is not an easy or recommended swap. Stick with a standard 5.4L (They use the same block, rods and crank IIRC) and you can bolt on an aftermarket supercharger without going nuts.

See the following post!!!!

4.6 to 5.4 or New heads?

I am sclime and I have just completed swapping my 98 4.6 for a 2001 5.4 crate motor. The only problem I have right now is a possible vacuum leak. The post is a pretty long one, but all the details are there. The most difficult part of the swap was finding someone who could do the exhaust mods. Once that was done, everything else came together.

I am waiting for a Superchip to be programmed to handle the 5.4, so have not had a chance to drive it much. Let me know if you have specific questions after you read the post.

I have about $4,000 in the whole thing which includes the Superchip.
