Engine dies out, but recovers... REPEATEDLY!
My 2003 F150 is great... except for the fact that it dies out at speeds ranging from 15-60 MPH. The worst being at 59 MPH ,(1450 RPM). After driving the truck for five months the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light illuminated. I took the truck in to the dealer they downloaded the code and performed a full regimine of fuel system tests and could not find or duplicate the problem. And as I was driving home it still has the problem. I think it is either a problem with the ignition module or the computer can't schedule the timing advance correctly. Any other experiences or suggestions would be a big help since the dealer doesn't employ mechanics only code readers who practice swaptronics. Thanks
in addition check the cooling system Ford guys didn't get it as hot as it will get when you are driving it. Pesco1 has the best advice. 90 dollars an hour none of us will leave it long enough for thorough troubleshooting.

Thanks for your replies. The truck is still under warrenty and they will keep getting it back until it's fixed. And I wish we had an Autozone, Minot is not the end of the earth but on clear days... You can see Canada
Does the computer control the spark or is the ignition unit independant of the computer? And also, is the spark or timming adjusted by the computer. My problem is not speed dependant or temperature dependant. But consistently occurs at 1550 RPM.

Your problem is a little differnt than mine but I'll put mine here instead of starting a new thread. 3 times in the last year or so my truck has stalled out while making a right turn the first 2 times the turns were also going up a slight hill the last one that happened today was fairly level ground in all 3 cases the truck started right up and ran fine also all 3 time I got on the gas hard shortly before I had to make the turn to pass some slow poke drivng along then of course brake hard so I could make the turn I don't think that should have anything to do with it stalling out as I have done that many times but it only stalled out 3 times
my f-150 would kill about 1 every 6 months made it real hard to trace but finally it tripped the engine light i had a dead slow responding O2 sensor. hasnt killed again after that.
and it was most important right off idle and on decell when just getting into the gas but it didnt really happen enough for me to get it to do it when i wanted it to.
