Question check engine light

looking for a little insight... check engine light came on today, steady. seems to be running o.k. except possibly a slight stumble at steady cruising speed anywhere from 40 - 70. it is a 97 4.6 that i have replaced wires, plugs and computer was updated at dealer, this symptom does not resemble the misfire that the last problem turned out to be. it has always had an issue when after steady cruising on the highway and getting off at an exit, it seems to "load up", idle falls off and runs rough for a few seconds. this never seemed to be a problem other than annoying. does this sound like a fuel issue? i will try to get codes asap for further info., but has anyone had experience w/ the "loading up" problem???

Might not be ' loading up' but the EGR might actually be sticking open. Long cruse at speed would be holding the EGR open and running hot exhasut through it. Then when you get off the throtttle it is supposed to close but the valve might not be and causing the idle problem. Could have some bearing on your light as they have a sensor for egr flow.

Get your codes read at autozone, but I think there's pretty good chance its the EGR

The '92 grand marquis with 4.6L V8 I used to drive does the same thing. Get up to highway speeds, then when you slow down the CEL comes on.
