egr vac line
i had to replace my egr valve today. its cool and works great under 65 mph. should there be a line running from the valve head elsewhere because theres a nipple there but no line. i had my smog system disconnected so i dont know if that has something to do with it or what. any
would be greatly appreciated.we are all newbs
That nipple on the top of the valve is for the vacuum line. If that line is not hooked up, the valve will not open and close as it's designed to. I think the vacuum line runs to a reservoir behind the battery.
there should be a green vaccum line running to the top of the EGR valve. That green line comes from the EVR solenoid. on the 4.6L the EVR solenoid sits right in front of the DPFE sensor, which sits in front of the EGR valve. its on the driver's side. its a little black plastic thing. you must hook this line up.
the EGR valve will let exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber to cool the engine and help you pass the smog test, but it only works at higher engine temps, thus that's why its giving problem over 65. you had to have taken the vaccum line off of the old EGR valve, if not that's what was wrong in the first place.

If you are lucky there should be a vaccum diagram on the inside of the hood. It will have Vac. routing for all of your vac. hoses. Ford used a lot of temp sensitive vac valves back in '84. TAB, TAD and the EGR are just the ones i remember off the top of my head. You might want to check into an Alldata DIY subscription as it would have all of the information you would need .
