Engine stalling while driving

I have a 2000 F150 XLT 4.6L. Last night the engine stalled on me twice. Both times I was slowing down from 60 mph to turn off the highway. First thing I noticed was that I lost power steering and the lights on the dash came on. I pulled over, came to a stop and put it into park. The engine started up fine. The same thing happened to my wife about a year ago. The truck has been running without problems since.

After the second stall, I noticed the RPM's were dropping well below 800. The needle kept jumping around between 500 - 850. Is there a sensor or valve that might be malfunctioning?

I'd appreciate any help.

engine stall

Had same problem last week...replaced Throttle position sensor, no more stall. Have diagnostic codes checked, make sure to have them cleared after replacing sensor..computer brain (pcm) stores trouble codes ...if it is crucial operating code,it will let vehicle operate long enough to get to repair facility, then goes into shutdown mode. Good Luck!

It's been my experience that the TPS will always throw a code P0222 or P0333 . I would bet that you have no check engine light on. With the erratic idle and the intermittent stalling, I would bet the farm on the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve being clogged or sticking. They are notorious in Fords for causing idle problems. Try running a bottle of RXP through it first and don't baby it while running it. You may need to climb up on it and remove the IAC for a thorough cleaning.

I check all my hoses for leaks, popped in a new PCV and cleaned the IAC with STP throtle body cleaner

All good so far

Thanks guys
