5.4s intake regulation motor ?
5.4s intake regulation motor ?
:o My faithful 97'F150 will not idle. Shell die on you in a heartbeat
under 1000 rpm even on the freeway( wich is a real bummer at 70 with no power steering). Someone has told it its 95% probababilty of a " air intake regulation motor" ? because its a common problem. Injected cleaner and 93 octane has not helped a bit. Anyone agree or disagree and if so how hard is it to replace and ohhh yeah...where the heck is it? Anyhelp would be appreciated

I've never heard of an "air intake regulator motor" on a current F-150. There is something called an "Idle Air Control" valve (IAC) that adjusts for load such as A/C, but that will only cause problems at idle.
If your engine is completely dieing while you drive down the freeway, to me this indicates that you have lost electrical power to your PCM (computer) or the fuel is not reaching the engine. If the engine coughed a bit but didn't die, this could be an air leak or sensor problem. But because you lose power all together, I think it's the PCM, clogged fuel flow or a dead fuel pump. Have you ever changed the fuel filter?
I can't say exactly where it is on the 5.4L, but each engine has a schrader valve on the injector fuel rail. It looks exactly like a valve stem on a tire. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, you can accurately measure the fuel pressure. If you don't have one, you can press it in and at least see if there is high fuel pressure. If the system has pressure, the fuel should spray out very, very strong.
Do you have an aftermarket computer chip, like a Superchip? If the contacts on the chip come loose, your engine will die immediately.
Anything else you could add?
