motor finally went
motor finally went
Hi guys
Well my 97 f-150 with a 4.2l finally let go after 380,000 plus miles.
This is the best truck I have ever had it has pulled all of my landscaping equipment, pushed snow everyyear and never asked for anything except for regular maintanence. My question is does anybody know of a reputable rebuilder of these engines or supplier of new ones thats not going to kill my check book coming on the slow part of my business.
Thanks
John

Check some of the dealers who sell over the net. Most have pretty good prices on OE remans. Couple of aftermarket rebuilders offer complete remans including oil pump and tin. ATK has a rebuild that is actually pre run and has a pretty good warranty.
What about the tranny? 380K miles worth of hauling and plowing and I'd bet that gearbox is set to explode along with the engine. Maybe look at having it serviced at the same time?
What do you mean by "let go"?

I live about 1 hr from detroit in the thumb of michigan, By let go i mean the rod just started knocking out of the blue on day before we loaded up to go to work. Now I am stuck using the 85 dodge 1 ton ( I hate this truck) just bought a 78 f 150 off of ebay as a back up until I get the 97 back up and running.
Have you thought about slapping in a 5.4? I read an article in MM&FF (Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords) Magazine where they did a 4.6 to 5.4 swap because the 96 mustangs engine had finally gone out. The found a 5.4 with 7K miles at a junk yard from a wrecked E150 Van. They spent like $1500 for the complete engine. This might be an alternative for you since finding a used or even new V6 could cost as much if not more than just opting for the 5.4 or even a 4.6.
Good Luck,
Adam
