CA Emissions
CA Emissions
If I have my truck which i bought in florida and move to california can I make the emissions work for california somehow or do i have to sell my vehicle and buy one with ca emissions?
CA emmisions and 49 State have been the same for some time. The CA emmission charge on the new cars here refers to the money the manu. spent to get the vehicle certified by the state. CA has its own EPA and does not look at data generated for the rest of the country. If you want something approved in CA you have to do a whole new set of testing. You will prob. have to pay ( I have heard) some sort of fee to register the truck from out of state but no other changes will have to be made. Welcome to the " terminator " state!!
Thanks for the info. So I have a 2002 F-150 5.4 V8... there should be nothing I have to actually do to the truck, just pay the registration fee to certify it?
I really like my truck, I'd turn down my job probably if I had to get rid of it
ps- Can you tell me anything useful about Newport Beach area... like where the hell do people who WORK there live? I was thinking of going down the coast about 40mins...

badbeat...
I work in San Juan Capistrano... I live in Orange... about a 26 mile drive... if you are working in Newport... you can live in Orange, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Santa Ana (if you like the hood) a lot depends on how much you wanna spend on rent, and how far you wanna drive...

Thanks for the info. And as far as the registration that there shouldn't be any difference except a certification (stock 2002 supercab 5.4 v8) fee for CA? This eases my stress level, I was thinking they had some kind of stuff they put on the engine to reduce smog or something.
Hi Badbeat,
I actually live in Fountain Valley / Huntington Beach which is the next city north of newport. Get ready for some sticker shock both in the cost of registering your truck here ( My 2003 runs about $425 and that is if they repeal the tripleing of the vehicle tax) and real estate. The average rent for a 1 bedroom near the coast is $950 - 1100, A 2 bedroom will go for $1000 - 1800. I do pest control service for most of the local property managers around here so I have a pretty good idea what the current rental market is. Hopefully Arnold will get the car tax thing worked out. Welcome to CA.

The only extra expenses you will have to get when you bring your truck here, is a smog check.... also make sure you register yer truck in the first 20 days, or they will levee fines against you... my wife learned this the hard way when she moved to CA from PA... her 95 Sentra cost her $350 to register, when it really only should have cost about $90....
Yer average rent near Newport beach is probably anywhere from $900-1500 for a 1 bedroom, and $1100-2000 for a 2 bedroom... hell, you can usually buy for cheaper than some of the rents... it's crazy...
