Timing chain (when to change it?)
I got a 98 f150 ext.cab 4x4, with a 4.6 v8 .
It's got 240 000km , and haul an average 3-400 lbs load in the box daily.
When should I change the timing chain?
Thanks

How would I know? With hyd. tensioners wouldn't it just wear out?
I had one snap in my 81 mustang with no warning at 190k, and as much fun as having my engine destroy itself sounds. It would probably happen 200miles from nowhere.

Oh well I guess I won't worry about the timing chain for a while
it seems nobody has ad any problems. I guess everyone is in
the mode of " run them until they die" . O well , if many are running to 2-300 000 miles I guess my 4.6l is only half way there.

I say its worth the money to get the chain replaced if you are at around 200K miles. I had one break on a truck at 240 K Miles and I ended up with just about all of my valves bent. Changing the chain is alot cheaper if you catch ahead of time.
