New to site - with too many miles
Hello, I just purchased a 93' F150 std long bed w/ 302, man 5 speed. I haven't had a Ford since 1979. I just found this site, which I think is cool.
I have a question about the engine light. I comes on when I am at higher RPM and accelerating, say getting on the highway. After I quit accelerating and hold at any speed the light goes out. Any ideas?
Here's a little more history on the truck. I bought the truck from the original owner. He drove it up and down the highway mostly. The body is straight, the interior is amazingly good, the box has hardly any marks in it (no dings), and the odometer reads 251,000. I know, a 302 with a lot of miles - but it runs strong.

As old as what? I have an 86 E-150, and they had the reader there??
You can buy a reader, MUCH cheaper than the dealer would charge to fix it. You can also use it anytime you have trouble, and pull the codes yourself......,,,,98

The one on my van, is in front of the battery on the radiator support. Not marked at all, and not in a very prominent place either. Just a dead end plug, with a snap on cap. Might have been all of four connectors in it, but it does the job it's supposed to do.,,,,98
Not sure where they hide it on a Marquis??

He would have to go to a dealership.

EEC-IV codes can be pulled with nothing more sophisticated than a paperclip, your eyes, and a set of instructions.

Most autoZones only have the newer OBD-II scanners. Call ahead and see if they have an OBD-I scanner for store use. Some do but most don't.

a lot of the older 302 engine ive seen at my dealership have what we call the free egr code . once the 302 start to get some mileage on them it throws a code for the egr sensor , normally the engine isnt effected at all . usually a new egr valve and evp senor wil fix the problem
Just a note , most older 302 vehicles have this code and you dont even know it
