smoke and loss of power

hey everyone,
Im new here and would like a little advice on what is going on with my truck. It is a 91 f150, reg cab long box, 302 aod 4x4. Ok I have whitish colored smoke coming out from under my hood and a big loss in power. I stopped and checked under the hood and everything was fine, checked guages and fluid levels and everything was good. the smoke seems to be coming from my air filter(open element) I manged to limp home; there are no weird noises coming from the engine at all. I don't know what s going on any suggestions would be appricated.

Also, I know it isnt a truck but it is ford, 85 crown vic 302 aod. I can get it to start and it will run fine (except engine light comes on at low rpm and goes off as soon as you hit the gas and speed it up a little) The problem comes when I go to start it back up after it is hot. It acts like it is really low on juice and hardly turn over. all lights still work and if I leave it sit and cool down 90% of the time it will start right up. Is that the alt or a starter motor going bad?
Thanks and sorry this got to be so long.

The Crown vic engine sounds like a sludged up engine with oil flow problems, and/or running hot. What does it look like in the valve cover?

The first thing you have to learn is to Never, Ever Let the SMOKE Out!!

Welcome to the Bored. My guess for the white smoke is a coolant leak somewhere.
