oil filter change

Ok I know this is a pretty basic question but does anyone have a good technique for changing their oil filter? The last truck I had it was in almost straight up and down so you'd only get a little leakage. Since on my F-150 it's at an angle it leaks all over the place when I start unscrewing it.

On the 99 5.4 you need to turn you wheels all the way to the left. This will move the steering linkage away so you can get the filter out. There is a drip tray to channel the spillage to the front of the axel where it will make a mess.
On my 98 4.6 I have a filter relocation kit - I haven't paid attention to where the stock position is, but I think it is in the same location.

Depends on your year.

On my '97, the filter is right under the front bumper, so its easy to get to.

But no matter what car it is, just unscrew the filter slowly and let it drain some, unscrew a little more and let drain, unscrew a little more, etc etc.

Thanks guys. The turn to the left will be handy, that was part of the problem I couldn't approach it from straight under or bring it straight down... its a 2000 btw

That is one thing that I absolutely love about this truck! The oil filter right behind the left fog light on my 97, it's a breeze to change. Changing a light bulb takes longer!
