My 2000 5.4 4x4 screw gets 16 constant and sometimes better.

I know my truck isn't what you was aksing about but thought I would let you know what I had experienced.

It seems to vary from truck to truck really. From what I can tell, there are just too many variable to really put out a number that you will get.

My '97 4x4 supercab shortbed 5.4L gets about 14.5MPG. This is 95% highway miles (between 70-75MPH). I try not to give it more gas than needed, and for the most part I think I do pretty good about that.

Like the other guy said, not exactly what you're asking, but just to give you an idea THere have been a few other threads like this and it seems like no matter what kind of truck it is (SCREW, SCAB, REGULAR, 4x4, 4x2) it varies.

Probably has a 3.55 rear end so I would expect 14-16 city and 17-19 highway.

MPG

I have an 03 4WD SCrew with the 5.4 and I get about 13.5-14 combination driving (less if the wife drives it).

Thats with an AFE filter and SI/DO Magnaflow exhaust.

APT's number's are correct for that truck.

I don't have any 'true' city numbers.

75% highway miles on each tank:
18.5 summer
17.0 winter

14.0 towing 3500 lbs at 60 mph relatively flat.

One trip when in no hurry I got 19.5.

As you can see in below, i have a regular cab, regular bed, 2wd, and i have the 5.4L. I have several mods done to mine but i can get on mine as much as i ever want to and i still get 15mpg. The one time i tried to keep my foot out of it....which i still didn't, i got 17mpg.

Mileage

I just did 2000 miles with mine. 2001 X-Tra Cab 54. 3.73 gears Auto with A/C. No mods whatsoever. I had a moderate load in the back during the trip. I got 18.2 MPG driving very conservatively. Nothing above 2K RPM and cruise control on mostly flat highway. That equated to a crise of about a constant 75 MPH.

I now have installed a set of underdrive pulleys and am working on an electric fan. The improvement in performance is noticeable and the MPG should also benefit.

Good luck.

Mine is a 1999 5.4, F-150, 4x4, off-road package with a fiberglass shell. It is very hard to get this truck to post less than 14 mpg with city miles combined with our slow, dirt country roads. On the highway, it averages 16 - I have seen an honest 17 mpg on a 1,500 mile round trip. In absolute perfect conditions, the truck will get 18+ mpg. It has the 3.73 rear gears, is usually loaded somewhat and I drive 80+ mph on the highway - it's New Mexico. The truck has 60,000 troublefree miles at this point - bought new.

Cool

HI!... This past summer I went on vacation to BELLEVILLE, ONTARIO, which is 545KM's away from WINDSOR, ONTARIO where I live. I topped my truck off and drove a steady 70-75MPH all the way there. I ended up using just a hair over half a tank of fuel. When I filled back up after arriving I figured it out and ended up getting 23.2 MPG!!! Thats with a 340H.P N/A 5.4 with 4.10 gears in a REG-CAB, SHORT-BOPX, STEP-SIDE, auto.

I have had 2, 5.4s. The first one was replaced because of leaky head gaskets. I have a 99 250SD with a 5 speed and a 4.10 rear end. The first engine got 16 at best and the second has gotten 17.5 on the highway empty and not pulling. If you pull much at all it goes to 12.5 but that was going on down the road. I dont put my foot in it at all though.

I started tracking my MPG right after I purchased the truck partly out of curiosity but mainly because I'm a cheap bastard. I've kept an Excel spreadsheet going that tracks my mileage, costs and distances and gives me a running graph of the mileage. I can get all sorts of statistics out of it. My insurance guy was a little shocked when I told him how many miles I drive per year on average down to the tenth mile.

So here are the results so far on my '01 Scab 5.4 2wd after 46 tankfulls of city driving. My best is 15.755mpg, my worst is 13.060 (just had to try out that new computer program), the average of all 46 tanks is 14.686.

I hasten to add that this is very strictly city driving and no towing. Almost any highway driving will throw a single tank mpg way off. So if I drive even 10 miles of highway on a city tank then I throw the numbers for that tankfull out. I have other numbers for highway mileage and towing mileage.

It's interesting that I went back and looked at the window sticker that was in the truck and it said that they predicted 15mpg city per the EPA. Kinda neat that I'm only off by 0.314.

Neal, are you using imperial gallons to get those numbers?
