Gas Mileage?
Gas Mileage?
I am considering buying a Supercrew. I have not decided whether to get the 5.4 or the 4.6. I know that the bigger engine would have more power, however, I do not know if or how much more gas it will use. I do not need the extra power, but if it uses the same amount of gas I may as well get the power. Can anyone give me (Real World) not EPA estimate city and highway mileage for each engine with 3.55 rear gears? Thanks in advance
My 2000 5.4 Screw lives on the highway and delivers a constant 16 mpg with occasional 17- 18 mpg. Considering it is 4 wheel drive I can live with it and also doubt a 4.6 would do any better on the average doing what I do.

I have to agree, my 99 2x4 with a 4.6 gets a consistant 16 mpg, regardless of whether I'm driving highway or city. My work truck, a 2003 4x4 with a 5.4 gets 15 mpg with mostly city driving. The 2003 is bone stock, the 99 has a flip chip and aftermarket exaust! If they were both stock, 2x4 pickups, the 5.4 would concievably get better mileage given these actual figures! I've already decided my next truck will have the 5.4! Unless, of course, Ford decides to bring out the 4.5 Powerstroke V6!
