Redline on 5.4??

Hope this doesn't sound like an off-the-wall question, but . . .

Why doesn't the tach on my 02 5.4 have a redline?

Is it because the tranny is electronically programmed to shift at a certain RPM thus eliminating the need for a "redline" limit?

Or could it be the PCM that controls the redline by limiting the spark at a certain RPM?

Just curious.

The PCM has it set at (I think) 5200 with fuel cutoff at around 5500 (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). In short, the engine would never rev high enough to max out the tach, so it just looks a little more eye appealing (IMO) to have no "redline" on the tach.
