I think both are governed at ~97MPH.

Installing a chip can get rid of the govern, but usually running chips requires running premium gas...

In stock form both will be governed by the top speed limiter. If you remove the limiter the 5.4 will have a higher top speed. Stock the 5.4 will accelerate faster. Bigger motor more power etc....

I had mine over 100 mph one time, it was on a downhill straight run in the mountains, and when I looked down and saw the speed, it scared the hell out of me! Prior to that it was pretty cool!

The rating must have changed for the 2003. I have had my truck over 100mph.

I don't know exactly how fast i was going but i would guess i have had it up close to 130mph on a few occasions. It'll pull all the way through 3rd gear, shifting out at about 5000rpm, and then pull a few more hundred rpms in overdrive. I don't really like stretching it out much like that....i know its not safe but i gotta let the truck "stretch its legs" some times.

Ya somebody told me that my truck would shut down at 98 m/h too..well that person was wrong..all factory and i had it at about 110 when i finally gave up. The spedometer only goes to about 95 but then it goes a lil further so i was guessing 110 because i let off the gas and the tack stayed stuck for a lil bit. Takes a while to get up to there too when its hilly!

I have the 4.6 and it too tops out at 100......the 5.4 will just get you there faster.

I have had my truck a little over 4 years now and have the 4.6 and have been happy with it and is a good engine but if you want the extra power go with the 5.4
